Ramnagar Fort, the ancestral home of the Kashi Naresh, sits across the Ganga about 14 kilometres from our hotel.
Getting there
About 40–50 minutes by car (roughly 14 km).
This 18th-century sandstone fort houses a quirky museum of vintage cars, palanquins, arms and astronomical clocks. During Dussehra it hosts the famous month-long Ramlila.
It makes a good late-afternoon trip, returning across the river as the light softens over the ghats.
Local tip
If you visit during Ramnagar Ramlila (September–October), go with a guide who can explain the staging — it is unlike any theatre elsewhere in India.
